SATURDAY MAY 14th at 1000-1200 h:
“To be or not to be” – a new kind of documentary theatre?
Performances like Third Generation, Radio Muezzin and Gardenia take their starting point in the performers own histories by which their lot becomes the pivotal point of the performance. It can be actors, dancers or representatives for an outlook on life, craft or fate.
What is the reason to use ’real’ stories and the people who have lived them instead of using professional actors and playwrights? How do the performers feel about giving themselves away on the stage? Is it necessary for the theatre to use ‘real’ stories and ‘experts’ instead of actors to compete with the film?
The dialogue involves artists from the performances Third Generation and Gardenia. From the interview project Rehearsal Matters, parts of videos and taped conversations where European artists as Peeping Tom, Gob Squad, Signa Sørensen, Jerôme Bel og Jean – Francois Peyret are reflecting about their working methods, utopias and choice of performers, will be shown.
TUESDAY MAY 17th 15.00-17.30 h:
”How to get there” – the process of creation and rehearsal
A meeting where artists from 4:48 Psykose, Accordion, Tartuffe and Elskende talk about their work towards the performances. The starting point will be parts of videos and taped conversations from the interview project Rehearsal Matters, where artists as Heiner Goebbels, Forced Entertainment, Staffan Holm and Richard Foreman talk about their creative tools.
We invite the artists to share their experiences and different working methods by asking questions like: How do you create artistic material? What kind of rules de you use during rehearsals? Which values and sticks are important in your work? What do you want to achieve and how do you know when you reach the goal?
Both seminars will be held in English.
